GREAT NEWSSSSS!!!!! LCI Fitness was chosen as one of the grant recipients for the Desjardins Foundation Prize Grants supporting youth projects from coast to coast. This year the Desjardins Foundation received 1,800 applications, 55,500 votes from employees and directors for their favorite projects, 546 winning projects (of which we are one), $1,430,000 awarded to projects and over 96,000 young people supported. We are so grateful to be counted among the recipients!!!
Our particular grant is sponsored by On The Road, a special initiative organized by a group of Desjardins employees to participate in a 24-hour walk or run relay. They raised $262,000 for projects entered for a Desjardins Foundation Prize.
The initiative that the Desjardins Foundation is supporting is the LCI Fitness Youth Inclusion program where we are at LCI Fitness are looking to breakdown barriers for disadvantaged groups (students with physical/mental disabilities or language barriers) in our school to find places where they are able to engage and have a sense of belonging with the rest of the school population despite their disadvantages. Funds will be used to bring in additional equipment to the space that all individuals can use with minimal guidance, instruction or language abilities. .
Students of
all abilities, orientation, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity will be
involved daily in the project either on their own or through the Fitness and Performance Program. We are
focusing on inclusion & providing exercise programs and equipment options that
break down barriers that would otherwise segregate student populations. Providing activity outlets for students to
interact and improve their comprehensive health, while fostering community,
provides a sense of belonging. Students with
connections in the building are more likely to engage and stay in school.
