Weight Room Life Skills 101:
The other day I was heading home from Costco when I saw 2 ladies, not young girls but full fledged ladies, run a mom with a stroller right off the sidewalk. They didn't even give her an inch! Didn't turn a shoulder, didn't say excuse me, but just walked straight ahead and if the mom had not gotten off the sidewalk, I am sure would have plowed right into her. I was totally shocked! So what does this all have to do with weight rooms?
First off these ladies obviously do not have any manners. However, those without manners never last long in the gym. Gym's are places full of positive energy and people willing to lend a hand or help out. They are also places where courtesy reins supreme. In gyms, as you should in life, you ask if something looks like it is being used. You weight your turn for implements, weights and machines. You file orderly towards a water fountain and if you get there at the same time as someone else, usually, you let them go ahead of you. There is a lot of unsaid and untaught etiquette that exists within the walls of a fitness facility. People could stand to take a few lessons in manners from weightlifters. Those without manners never last long as someone is happy to put them in their place. Should this not happen outside of the gym? For sure it should, but doesn't always. Practice makes perfect. Take your gym etiquette outside and show the world what being a member of Conquest means....beyond being fit.
